How to Configure MCP in Continue

Official Continue Docs

macOS

<project>/.continue/mcpServers/awesome-mcp.yaml

Windows

<project>\.continue\mcpServers\awesome-mcp.yaml

Linux

<project>/.continue/mcpServers/awesome-mcp.yaml

Setup and verification

Configuration: .continue/mcpServers/awesome-mcp.yaml / mcpServers (array) / YAML

Documentation reviewed: 2026-11-02. This is not a runtime test or security audit.

  1. Create a YAML file in .continue/mcpServers, keeping name, version and schema: v1 metadata.
  2. Paste the standalone generated YAML block, or merge its mcpServers array into an existing block without duplicating root keys.
  3. Select Agent mode in Continue, inspect the available tools and approve their use.

Unlike most JSON clients, YAML mcpServers is an array. This adapter does not emit remote HTTP headers because that schema was not established by the reviewed documentation.

Review every command and requested permission. Merge only the relevant server entries; do not overwrite unrelated settings. Keep credentials out of version control.
